Serenity Now!
Well, this has been quite the dramatic week, I must say. It's been busy as hell for me at work too. So today is my last day of the week, I have tomorrow off, and boy am I looking forward to a little downtime. Everyone have a happy weekend!

AACCKK!
I found out yesterday I definitely didn't get the theater job, but she's willing to talk to me about how they made their decision, so I need to call her today. She also said she knows of another opportunity I might be interested in . . . and I just found out today that I have to use like 60+ hours of vacation before August 31 or I'm going to lose it! I'm trying to get approval for taking a week off in August, and carrying more than I'm allowed into next year.

More Lemons
I found out last night that my sister has to go in for some tests about her medical condition, which is ongoing and fairly serious. So I'll add this to my heap o' woes this week. But last night I had myself a nice glass of wine, too many cookies (though lowfat), a good talk with my sister and another friend, and a huge cry. Today I'm feeling much better, though anxious to have a resolution to Jeffro's health situation, which will hopefully happen today.

When Life Gives You Lemons
You make lemonade I guess. Although I've never considered myself much of an optimist, I feel these days that I have to be. Lots of tough health issues going on with important people in my life: boyfriend, mother, and grandmother. Looks like Jeffro will need to be in the hospital for a couple of days this week. Grandmother apparently already is in hospital and I just found out. Mother is being a passive-aggressive bitch and informed everyone of her potentially life-threatening condition over email. Nice.
Weekend was spent doing health-related things and moving Jeffro into his new place, which after only 24 or so hours there, is looking fabulous.
On top of it all, I am fairly certain I have no chance of getting that theatre job, as it's been over a week since they started checking references and no word.
This is a very busy week at work with potential awardees in town and meetings all day starting at 8:30--I'm never at work at 8:30! So I will be very glad when this week is finished!

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
I'm so bummed. My best friend and neighbor of 5 years, who lives in the apartment above me, has just signed a contract on a new place. At least she'll still be in the same neighborhood, but it won't be the same and it won't be any fun to live there anymore. It feels like the end of an era. The cool thing was we sometimes had Seinfeld-like times where she would pop in like Kramer and craziness would ensue.
Also, my boyfriend will be moving this weekend. At least it's right across from where he lives now but this time will be sans roomate, which will be nice.
So in light of all this, I'm going Sunday to look at some open houses, so maybe I'll join in the fun of moving.

Damn Solicitors
I just got the most unbelievable phone call, some polling company offering me $100 to take a poll. Didn't say who they were, what the poll was for, but they're calling me at work? I finally got her to tell me they're targeting nonprofit groups, but it's a damn poll for Pepco. What? Like I have time for this bullshit? I'm supposed to take off work to help them out when it doesn't relate to my work at all? Ok, the $100 would be great, but that is ridiculous!

Doggie Disguises
Tired of your vicious dog breed getting a bad rap? Try this dog disguise and turn your doberman into a gentle, peace-loving poodle! Too funny.
Thanks to Jeffro for the tip.

Time Flies
When you're not at work . . . here's a recap of the weekend:
Friday - even though I had the day off, I got up early to send Signature Theatre my references (keep fingers crossed!) before I went to get my allergy shot. I had another appt in DC, and since I was downtown I decided to do a little impromptu shopping at Filene's, and unexpectedly ran into my friend Kin, who neither works nor lives downtown. What are the chances? So we decided to have lunch together and make an afternoon of it. That night, Jeffro and I went shopping and I wound up getting this Laura Ashley comforter at TJMaxx for $60 due to the salesperson's laziness about researching the actual price. I didn't mind.
Saturday - mostly unsuccessfully tried to do some shopping in the afternoon. Rented Million Dollar Baby Sat night and watched it between thunder storms. Jeffro and I had plans to get out a bit, but wound up just hanging out at home. If you haven't already tried it, you should check out Jolly Time's Healthy Pop Kettle Corn. I highly recommend it, especially if you're a fan of salty/sweet combo.
Sunday - spent most of my free time vacuuming. I mean, big-time, take your bed apart, move all your furniture vacuuming. Wound up using an entire bag in one session! Then Jeffro and I met up with some of his friends at Raku in Bethesda and had a fun time.

Quit Bugging Me!
I am having this day of constant stupid interruptions by the same 2 people who keep coming to me with little shit. Must be nice not to have anything to do. They keep throwing everything back on me THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM when they need to take action instead. God, this place is annoying. Have I ever mentioned that before? Ha!

What a Day
I had a doc appt today which took forever and I had to traipse around the city in this absurdly unbearable sauna-ish heat. I can't believe how miserable it is outside. I got to work frustrated and had a frantic message waiting for me . . . what else is new? Just as I thought "I better close my door so I don't get pissed," someone was at the door bugging me about the phone message. I tried hard not to explode too much, but I was ready to kill someone. Then after I did close my door, someone else knocked on it to talk to me about the message. I was so mad I was shaking and told the person, look I just got here. (She was wondering why I hadn't called her back after I told people prior to today that I'd be in late). I REALLY hate that about this office, people will leave you a message or email, then rush over to your door the minute you set foot in the office to make sure you got it. FUCK YOU, BACK OFF!

And the Winner Is . . .
Well, I don't know actually. I'm talking about the job interview yesterday. It went well, but the head guy was obviously testing me and trying to give me a really hard time. So I just gave him a bunch of shit back, which I think was the right thing to do. Since I come from a very academic background, I think he wanted to see if I would fit in with the banter that goes on in the office. So everyone keep your fingers crossed, you know how much I want out of my current job! And this would be less than a 5 minutes commute and I could go home during lunch!

Million Dollar Condo
Would you pay over a million for a 2-bedroom condo? Well, apparently someone is expected to at this trendy new loft condo complex in Old Town. Geez! They're having an open house Sunday, it's tempting to see what these places are like.

How Far?
How far is too far to travel to see one of your favorite singers? Holly Williams, daughter of Hank Williams Jr., will be in Oakland, MD--3 hours outside of DC--to perform Saturday at the Little Yough Summer Music Festival. Boy, I have nothing to do Sat so I'm so tempted to go, but on the other hand, that's a bit much!

A Day of Change
We've been waiting to hear who our new CEO will be--there was an internal candidate that we were all sort of pulling for, but she didn't get the job. Some woman from North Carolina. She starts Sept 1, and there could be lots of changes here. This place is finally fully staffed, for the first time in forever.

Weekend Update
I got everything done this weekend that I'd hoped to . . . plus this morning found a corner table that a neighbor didn't want, and hauled it to my house to see if it will fit in my living room. I've been looking for one, unsuccessfully, forever. Of course that made me late to work this morning, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity.
Friday: Had an interview with Signature Theatre, a small local theater that is literally in walking/biking distance from my house. It went well . . . but I don't want to curse myself! She did say before I left that she wanted to have me back this week for a second interview with her boss . . . so we'll see. Then I met a friend for a margarita-filled lunch and was pretty useless the rest of the afternoon.
Saturday: The dogs got a bath! This doesn't seem like much, but it's a huge undertaking. Went to a party at the Old Dominion Boat Club on Saturday night, it was a beautiful night for sitting out on the water. There were fireworks at 10 to celebrate Alexandria's birthday. The excitement was Jeffro getting sick, not good at all!
Sunday: Finally went to Goodwill to unload about 6 bags of unwanted stuff. I love purging! More margaritas, then a nice time with Jeffro shopping and taking a walk when the weather cooled off.

Welcome Back
Well, it's been quite a long hiatus, but I'm now back in my "real life." And loving every minute of it. Or not. My trip was good, as far as work trips go. There were some fun times, like riding a bike down to the Santa Monica pier, a couple of days at the beach, a couple fun parties, and yes I did make it to a taping of The Price is Right. I can't believe how crazy the fans were! I opted not to be a contestant and I'm glad I did cause you really have to know the games to be able to keep up. My coworker Karen, who sat right next to me, got called to "come on down" and she won a Jeep! Look for the show to air on Sept 29, and I'll probably get about two seconds on camera!
