Week Off Work!

Well, it sounds more exciting than it is. I'm having minor surgery and will be out next week, so probably not much blogging going on, unless I can deal with my slow dial-up connection at home. The surgery isn't schedule until 2:30 pm and I can't eat after midnight. Maybe I'll have a huge feast at 11:55!

Books!

The Sumner School in DC has an annual book sale, everything is under $4 and most books are just $1! Too good to pass up, so I bought 10 . . . to the tune of just over $20. So excited, cause I just don't have enough books at home that I haven't read yet . . .

Dire in Del Ray

For those of you living in NOVA, you're likely familiar with Del Ray. I have a friend who lives there, and she's right in the middle of the hostage situation going on. Her house is surrounded by police and they're not letting anyone go outside. And I thought I had drama in my life.

G-Unit

I actually saw a sign that said that this morning on the way to my interview. It went pretty well, but I don't want to hold my breath. I'd say it was the best one I've been on since I started looking a million years ago. Boy do I need to get out of here. Friday is the last day for two people in my office out of a staff of 12. Not good.
Family Business

I spent the weekend on Long Island NY to celebrate my grandfather's 90th birthday! The crazy part is, his two older sibling and one not-so-much-younger are still alive, and two of them were at the party. My two 85+ grandmothers are still around too. Some great genes in my family, apparently. But boy am I tired after the drive home yesterday.

Spongeworthy?

Elaine from Seinfeld would be happy to know her favorite contraceptive sponge is legally returning to the US market.
Here's How to Fix It

Even though the Earth is going to hell, here are some ways to fix it.

Thanks to Kin for the tip.
Hell in a Handbasket

Boy, I'm just cranky as hell these days. Between the crappy cold weather and too much going on . . . but I digress. Apparently, the Earth is all going to hell. Happy Earth Day, check out these pictures of how we are destroying our planet.

Thanks to Jeffro for the tip.

Bastards!

This morning I spotted an ancient Toyota Celica with a rear spoiler that obviously wasn't made for and didn't fit the car. Seeing how I had 2 coincidentally identical-looking spoilers ripped off (literally) my Honda Civic in the span of a year, I wanted to friggin run this guy off the road!

Reed's Ginger Candy

I highly endorse Reed's Ginger Candy if you are a big fan of ginger. It's nice and soft and chewy. Could have a bit more powerful flavor, but overall it's very good. They also make a ginger ice cream (with little ginger crystalline pieces!), but unfortunately you can't order that online. Fresh Fields, here I come!
Another One Bites the Dust

Well, my best friend in the office announced her resignation a few weeks back and will be leaving next week. Today, my next-to-best friend told me in confidence that she is leaving but hasn't made it official yet. Boy am I depressed! This place really sucks (hence, all the good people leaving), and this will make it even worse. Why am I still here? Bad, bad luck in the job market.
Bad Hair Days

Well, summer must really be on its way cause my hair has surrendered to humidity despite massive hair product and straightening efforts. Sigh.
Mind Boggle

Here's a fun mystery for you to solve. How can 12 men turn into 13? Click here to view this graphic design puzzle, and here to get the answer.

Thanks to Renee for the tip.

Free Ice Cream!

Need I say more? Thanks, Ben & Jerry.

Thanks to MJ for the tip.
Pope Poop

My entire office was in the conference room gathered around the TV to watch the announcement of the new pope. They asked if I wanted to join them, I said nope, don't care about the pope. I am sooo going to hell for this but really, I just don't care . . . speaking of hell, boy is it hot out. Just got back from a walk and have the a/c blaring.
Shoe Alert!

Glad I didn't make any recent purchases at DSW, who reported last month that someone had stolen customers' credit card and other personal data. Unfortunately, stores in Arlington VA were among the 108 hit!
Io Sono Italiano

I'm studying Italian via CD in the car! If only I had the money to actually go there.

Find Your Spot!

Wonder where is the perfect place for you to live? Take this quiz today! I'm supposed to be in Norfolk, VA. Not likely gonna happen . . .

Thanks to Donna for the tip.
Friday at Last

Just had a great lunch at Luigi's in DC. Calzone . . . mmmm . . . going to a dog happy hour tonight, should be pretty interesting.

Another One Bites the Dust?

Yet another futile interview. They seemed like boring fuddy-duds. I think I'm done. I just need to win the lottery or get a sugar daddy, neither of which look truly possible in this lifetime.
Idiot America

The government is finally officially banning cigarette lighters on airplanes. Duh! I'd like to think I had a hand in this, as I ratted someone out once for having a lighter (he was actually flipping it open and shut in the waiting chairs right in front of the airline workers at the gate!) and they followed him on the plane and made him give it up. Yeah me! Whose idea was it to ban stupid nail clippers but allow cigarette lighters? America is a stupid place indeed . . .

Goody Two Shoes!

What an 80s classic. I heard it this morning for the first time in a million years. Gotta love Adam Ant!

Although

Despite saying I'm trying to crack down at work, I do have an interview Thursday with USDA's graduate school/school of continuing education. How cool would that be, free classes for me?
Blah Blogging

I've been trying to quit my internet and blogging addiction the past few days and try to renew my zest for my job. Difficult, hell yes. But I think I better watch my step and try to get more work done these days. If only I could blog for a living!

Monday Already?

It actually seemed like I had a weekend and got some much-needed R&R. That makes it a little bearable to be at work.

Lazy weekend

Man, I'm just gonna sleep and be a couch potato this weekend. So bring on the rain!
Finally Friday!

It's definitely been a long week! Suffering terribly from allergies. Had an interview yesterday that wasn't even worth my time. I'm definitely looking forward to a quiet weekend.

Lovin' the 80s

Apparently Rick Springfield is releasing a new anthology, Written in Rock, 1970-2005. It's the first compilation that he's actually had a hand in. I'm tempted to get it, but since I own a different complete anthology, I'm not sure what I'll do. Aww, who am I kidding, I'm sure I'll buy it at some point.
Dream Home 2006

Each year my favorite cable station, HGTV, gives away a huge, beautiful, and expensive home. And each year I'm certain to win (not) . . . they've just annouced this year's dream home location. It seems they start hyping the contest earlier and earlier each year. You can't enter until like Dec or Jan and the contest runs through March!
Twinkie Potential

Have you lived up to yours today? Twinkies, not just for breakfast anymore.
Welcome Spring!

I'm so thrilled with the weather, gonna walk down today to see the cherry blossoms during lunch. One of the perks of working in DC. Although my allergies are killing me today and I'm sure I'll be suffering afterwards, but it will be worth it.

Stop the Insanity

I just found out my best friend at work will be leaving shortly for a new job, leaving me with the insane people. When will it end?
I Have to go Shopping!

No, really I have to. My zipper just busted. Luckily my underwear matches my pants. Good excuse for an excursion and spending money, huh?
Deja Vu?

In a weird turn of events involving lots of networking (boy, this is a small world), I was called by a recruiter to interview for a job at the very first place I worked after college. Would I want to go back? I'm not sure, after all I did make a decision to leave and I sort of feel I know too much about the place. Although it has been almost 10 years and I'm sure things are different now. But it sort of feels like trying to get back together with an ex, and we all know *that* never works . . .

Long Weekend?

Despite having a "long weekend," I am feeling very unrested today and not happy to be back at work. I know, what a shock that is. I went to Philly to help out with my niece who had surgery. She is back home and doing great. At least two of my least favorite people here are out of the office all week!
